Publish date: 2024-07-17

IQ is short for Intelligence Quotient. An IQ score is usually used to measure a person’s intellectual potential. If you are a fan of Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (or Tom Cruise as he is more commonly called) and want to know his IQ score, this article is for you. What then is Tom Cruise’s IQ?

There is no absolute answer to this question. Multiple IQ scores have been attributed to the well-known actor Tom Cruise by various sources, and he is yet to confirm or deny any of them. Keep reading to find out about his reported IQ scores and whether or not it affects his profession.

Reported IQ Scores of Tom Cruise

The earliest report of a Tom Cruise IQ score dates back to 1976. At the age of 14, following his parents’ separation, Cruise, who was raised Catholic, became close to a Catholic priest by the name of Father Ric Schneider. Schnieder, at the time, was influencing students to attend the St. Francis Seminary School in Cincinnati. Tom was one of such students. According to Schneider, as reported by the New York Daily News, an admissions IQ test was given, and Tom Cruise scored precisely 110, which was the minimum score required and was subsequently admitted.

Similarly, celebrityiqs.com gives Tom Cruise an IQ score of 125. The basis of this score is not shown, but the website provides a guide that IQ scores in the range of 121-130 imply that the individual is gifted, and because we love Tom, we agree with this conclusion. Even if you do not love Tom, you cannot argue that he is incredibly gifted. Still, the website disclaims that IQ scores posted on it “are not guaranteed” and “are for entertainment purposes only.”

Again, another source, iqtestprep.com, an aggregator of celebrity IQ test scores lists Tom’s IQ score as 94 and 125. Which of these two is correct is something we cannot quite say. The margin is irreconcilably wide and leaves the question of what Tom Cruise’s IQ is unanswered.

How Tom Cruise Perceives His Intelligence

Tom Cruise has been quite open with his struggle with dyslexia. Having been diagnosed with dyslexia— a learning disability characterized by difficulty in reading— at the age of 7, Tom struggled with school work growing up and was said to be mediocre in studies and sometimes uncommunicative.

Tom Cruise has described his younger self as a “functional illiterate”. Reading was not at the top of Tom’s list of activities he likes, because it took him so long. It is therefore not surprising that his former teacher, Salvio Russo, stated that he “was very unremarkable. You would never have thought he’d make it.”  We are certainly glad that he made it and continues to excel in his acting career.

Despite this learning setback, Tom determined to not let his dyslexia hamper his acting career as he realized that an inability to read would stunt his progress. Tom trained himself to focus and develop his reading habits. He adopted L. Ron Hubbard’s learning method of “Study Technology,” Going by the flawless acting we have seen from the actor, it is not in doubt that he succeeded in overcoming his learning disability. It took a lot of discipline, but he pulled through.

Therefore, it is evident that Tom Cruise’s dyslexia has nothing to do with his IQ levels and that he is creative and hardworking.

Final Thoughts

Despite the uncertainty as to Tom Cruise’s actual IQ score, some things are certain: he is famous, lovable and has brought a great deal of joy to many people. While doing this, he has also amassed wealth, global recognition. As far as we are concerned, only an intelligent person can achieve all Tom Cruise has. We will most likely trade the highest possible IQ scores for a chance to live his life for just one day.
